What is Tawakkul?
Tawakkul (توكل) in Arabic means to rely upon, to entrust, or to lean into with full trust.
In Islamic practice, Tawakkul is the state of:
- Taking responsible, sincere action (asbāb)
- Then submitting the outcome to Allah
- Letting go of fear, doubt, and anxiety
“And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him.”
(Surah At-Talaq, 65:3)
🛑 Tawakkul ≠ Laziness
Tawakkul is not:
- Sitting idle, waiting for miracles
- Avoiding decisions
- Using “trust in Allah” to escape responsibility
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Tie your camel, then trust in Allah.” (Tirmidhi)
